If San Carlos is a project surrounded by great optimism, this is one of cautious optimism. Puerto del Aire Extension is certainly promising, but there is work to be done in determining its potential.
The Puerto del Aire Zone – PdA, as we like to call it – is a mineral resource area contiguous with the Mulatos Pit that extends to the northeast of the existing pit walls. A portion of the mineral resources are classified as mineral reserves within the Mulatos Pit.
In 2009, Alamos geologists discovered a significant north-eastern extension of blind gold mineralization to PdA, which we refer to as the PdA Extension, that contains grades similar to those encountered at other zones within the Mulatos District. The PdA Extension is parallel and similar to the Escondida – El Victor trend, both in terms of its geology and strike. The PdA Extension is host to both lower-grade gold mineralization and localized zones of high-grade mineralization.
Since its discovery, the Company has been conducting an aggressive step-out drilling program that has been successful at establishing apparent continuity of the PdA gold-bearing silicified zone towards the Mulatos River, which is now more than 2 kilometres from the edge of the Mulatos Pit and remains open to the northeast. We feel these results have significant implications and demonstrate the potential to make additional discoveries in the Mulatos District beneath the post-mineral cover.
Also of note, recent drilling has identified the presence of the southern extension of the San Carlos mafic dyke swarm in the northeastern portion of the PdA Extension. Consequentially, the Company now considers this entire area to now be more prospective for the discovery of additional high-grade zones.
The PdA Extension is definitely on the backend of the Advanced Exploration Projects pipeline, but given its similarities to the Escondida
