We believe that the story of the Mulatos District has just begun to be told. From the high ground of our existing mine, one can look out and see where those future chapters are being developed by our exploration team.
The Mulatos District is situated in the Sierra Madre Occidental (“SMO”) volcanic province of Mexico, which hosts an extensive series of precious metal deposits.
The SMO has been a prolific trend over the last 400 years, with recent exploration successes accounting for the approximately 80 million ounces of gold and 4 billion ounces of silver produced or discovered in the region. The majority of the precious metal deposits of the SMO volcanic belt are silver-rich with by-product gold, however high-sulfidation deposits within this mineral belt tend to be gold-rich, such as the Mulatos and El Sauzal deposits. The Mulatos District contains over thirty-five square
kilometres of hydrothermal alteration similar to that hosting gold mineralization within the Mulatos deposit area, a portion of which is currently being mined. Alamos has exploration projects coinciding with over a dozen areas of intense alteration, the majority of which have historic mine workings or ore-grade drill intercept. In addition to areas with surface evidence of mineralization, recent exploration has been successful at finding blind mineralization below barren post-mineral volcanic units.
