Our Successes

Success can’t always be measured on a set of scales.

The story of the communities in close proximity to the Mulatos Mine , for example, is one of our greatest successes. In coming to this region of Mexico, Alamos not only built a gold mine, but also helped nearby communities by improving the quality of health care, employment, education, and infrastructure.

The following are all successes of which we are very proud, for the true heroes of these stories are our neighbours here in Mexico.

Health Care

Before our arrival, it wasn’t uncommon for an injured or ill child to be carried for hours over formidable terrain to receive costly medical care many miles away. Today, nearby communities have access to free medical services day or night, all year round, right here at the gate of the Mulatos Mine.

At the Mulatos Mine, the Company supports a clinical program aimed at promoting health and

preventing disease through annual examinations, vaccines and diet intervention. This program is available to employees, contractors and members of the local community. The company doctor also makes house visits to the elderly people in the neighbouring communities of Mulatos and Matarachi.

Our medical services are just one part of this feel-good story, however.

Employment

Alamos is a major contributor to the economic well-being of the region, which includes several communities in close proximity to the Mulatos Mine.  At the end of 2009, Alamos employed 456 people in Mexico – an increase of 12% over the 406 it employed at the end of 2008. Furthermore, total payroll was in excess of $10 million, including benefits. In 2009, over 95% of the people employed in Mexico were Mexican Nationals, many of whom reside in the neighbouring communities.

In order to support mine operations, Alamos encouraged local entrepreneurs to provide us
