Location: El Jaspe is about 8 kilometers northwest of the Estrella Pit and leach pads.
Geology: El Jaspe contains several square kilometers of stratiform silicic alteration hosted within the andesitic rocks of the lower volcanic series. The silicic alteration hosts several small historic gold workings. A geochemical grid shows anomalous gold in soil samples over several hundred square meters south of the historic workings.
Activity: First phase drilling, consisting of 34 holes (4,566 m), delineated an extensive zone of blind goldcopper- silver mineralization within a thick, stratiform silica-pyrite breccia body that is the down-dip extension of the surface alteration. Strongly elevated silver values are coincident with the gold mineralization and appear to reflect a different style of mineralization in the district.
The best intervals to date are 2.25 g/t of gold over 6.1 meters, 1.46 g/t over 7.6 meters and 0.85 g/t over 13.7 meters within an approximately 50-meter interval of sub-cut-off grade (0.5 g/t) material. Strongly elevated silver is coincident with the gold mineralization. One hole drilled late in the program contained narrow intervals of up to 358 g/t of silver and 1.5% copper within a 94.5-meter section of mineralized, brecciated silica. A second phase program to follow up these results is scheduled for 2006 after geophysical work is complete.
